Our mission

Save the information about who we are.

Most of what a person was disappears within a generation or two. Pastpond exists to stop that loss — to keep a structured, lasting record of each of us for the people who come next.

“The only thing I know about my own family is a little about my great-grandfather — and even that is fragmentary and hard to understand.”
Denis Skomarovskii, founder

A genetic test tells me my ancestors came from Northern and Southern Europe. From relatives, I know I have family connected to Estonia, Belarus, and Poland. But I can’t see their faces, hear their voices, or know who they really were — what they did, what they cared about, who they were close to.

For a long time I thought the answer was to dig through archives and reconstruct the past. It isn’t. Most of it is simply gone, and no amount of searching brings it back.

So I’m solving it from the other direction. Not recovering the people before me — making sure the people after me never have to wonder. Pastpond is where you build a structured, queryable, lasting record of who you are, and decide exactly who opens it and when.

We are information. When we save it, we save the world a little — one life at a time, for everyone who comes next.
